Booking and paying: what the service charge is

How booking works, what you pay, and why there's a small TreatHour service charge on top of the business's price.

Updated 14 October 2026

Every booking on TreatHour is paid online when you book. Your time is only secured once the payment goes through, so the business knows you're coming and you know your slot is yours.

What you pay

You pay the business's own price, plus a small TreatHour service charge of 10% on top. You always see both, and the total, before you pay.

  • Example: a ₦20,000 service + ₦2,000 TreatHour service charge = ₦22,000.
  • The business gets its whole price. The service charge is how TreatHour keeps the lights on, and it also covers the card fees.
  • If the business asks for a deposit, see Deposits and balances.

How booking works

  1. Choose a business, a service and a time (and a team member, if the business has a team).
  2. Book as a guest or sign in. Guests give a name and a Nigerian mobile number, and choose how to get their booking link: text message or email.
  3. Pay securely with Paystack. We hold your time for 15 minutes while you pay.
  4. Some businesses accept bookings straight away. Others accept each request themselves: you'll see Waiting for confirmation until they do.

If a business doesn't accept your request in time, it's declined automatically and everything you paid towards the business's price comes back to you. The service charge is kept (see Cancelling and refunds).

Good to know

Is the service charge refundable?
No, not when a booking is cancelled, declined or missed. The only exceptions are payment mistakes: a payment that arrived after your time was taken, a double payment, or a wrong amount. Those are refunded in full, service charge included.
Can I pay at the venue instead?
Not for the booking itself: every booking is paid online. If the business takes a deposit, the rest (the balance) can be paid online or at the venue.
What does "Waiting for payment" mean?
We're holding your time while you pay. If you close the payment page, you can press Pay now again while the hold lasts. After that the time is released and nothing is charged.
Is my card safe?
Payments go through Paystack, a licensed Nigerian payment company. TreatHour never sees or stores your card number.
